BEHIND THE LOCKERS
Deepak Gill, better known as the Thirstyblogger and partner, maverick entrepreneur, Paul Dass, launched their restaurant and speakeasy, The Locker & Loft @ Damansara Kim few weeks ago.
With no signboard and hidden behind a set of rusty lockers, which adds to the appeal of discovering the secret den for food and drinks. Within the cozy minimalist rustic set-up with bare walls and one of the longest bars within the vicinity, a 25-foot long copper-topped bar with DJ played on the decks. In the pipeline, is the restaurant’s centerpiece, a copper distiller, that adds to the distillery-bar feel that the outlet exudes.
Deepak Gill said that Locker & Loft is a culmination of his passion for good food and good cocktails at affordable prices. “We want Malaysians to be able to re-discover cocktails without having to always pay so much. We’re making cocktails accessible and fun.”
Paul Dass, who has been in the F&B industry for 10 years, said, “Ever since I’ve started out as a barman in my teenage years, I’ve wanted to build my own establishment. What we want the Locker & Loft to be is a second living and dining room;a cozy, welcoming place where people can really enjoy good food, good drinks, quality non-mainstream music,and be in the company of family and friends.”
The establishment’s cocktail specials includes Kelapa Rock, a coconut-water infused vodka cocktail, Brown-Brown, a Milo Ais -based cocktail, and also The Baldi, a mammoth punch bowl that contains an entire bottle of liquor. The Locker & Loft research and development team will releases a new Malaysian-inspired cocktail every week to keep things interesting.
The Locker & Loft is also the world’s first bar outside Australia to have the West Winds gins – Broadside, and Captain’s Cut, which are limited edition craft spirits created with water from the pristine Margaret River, and incorporates native Australian plants.
The food menu features appetizers starting from RM8, the most popular Mutton Varuval Quesadillas, the Miso-Flavoured Moringas as well as the Catfish Fingers and main courses, customer favorite slow-cooked Char Siew Baby-Back Ribs, and the Smoked Duck Linguine with Lap Chong. The beverage menu features 12 specialized cocktails starting from RM22, including alcoholic milkshakes. There’s also a range of wines, beers and a wide selection of gins, rums and single malts. Soon be selling bottled cocktails as well.
For music aficionados, the establishment runs “Blues Nights” on Tuesdays as well “House Nights” on Friday nights featuring local DJ such as Blastique. There will be a “Sunday BBQ” on every first Sunday of the month from 2pm to 5pm.
